Congratulations to Jasmine Varner for being Bowling Green Daily News Athlete of the Week.

Simply medaling in the 300-meter hurdles at the Class 3A state meet Saturday isn’t enough for Jasmine Varner. The Bowling Green junior wants to win it.

Varner enters this weekend’s meet at the University of Kentucky with three region titles won last week at the 3A, Region 2 meet at North Hardin. She’ll go for gold in the 300-meter hurdles with an entry time of 45.97. Only Clark County’s Makenzie Cooper (a one time-distance runner) is seeded higher at 45.19.

“I’m very nervous, but very excited I get to go to state for all my events,” Varner said. “The 300 is very nerve-wracking because I have a shot this year to take that gold, so I’m very nervous about it.”

Varner placed fifth in last year’s 300 hurdles. She’ll also compete in the 100-meter hurdles (15.36), the 4×100-meter relay (50.76) and, for the first time at state, the long jump (16-02.00).–hurdles/article_207a18c4-9ffb-57f7-9d70-192841c83cbd.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=user-share
