Purple Striders – Track and Field 2011 Season
Parents,
We are so glad to have you and your child participating with the Bowling Green Track and Field teams. As a network of supporters and fans, the Purple Striders Booster Club is looking forward to an exciting 2011 spring season.
In this packet we are including an information sheet for you to complete with contact information and volunteer opportunities. There is also an athletic fee for Track and Field. Please complete the forms and return to either Coach Hamilton at the High School or Coach Holmes at the Jr. High.
The Booster Club is responsible for the PurpleStriders.com website, uniforms, organizing, purchasing, and selling our Purple Apparel at meets, buying and selling concessions, working the track and field during home meets, and organizing potlucks, spaghetti dinners, car washes, run-a-thons, ad sales, end of season banquets, meet day snacks, and more.
We are privileged to be the host school for this year’s City/County meet. Prior to that meet, we will be hosting a few small meets and then our annual Purple Striders’ Invitational meet. In order for those meets to run smoothly, we need EVERYONE’S participation on meet days. The smaller meets will help us iron out the wrinkles before the larger meets approach. I will send out e-mails letting you know where I need volunteers. This is such a great way to help promote your school and support your children. Please be prompt (and willing) in your response to volunteer needs; it makes everyone’s job so much easier.
Also, you will have the opportunity to sign up to help with the end of the season banquet and to provide snacks and beverages for our runners for each of the meets we attend. Ideas for snacks are nutri-grain bars, bananas, peanut butter and crackers, water and/or Gatorade.
Please take notice of all information in this packet. We have some fundraisers to help with uniform costs, equipment costs (we are trying to replace our high jump pit), awards and travel expenses.
Each year, we have seen this program improve. This is due to YOUR involvement. Many of the same parents have been involved year after year. It is a joy to work with them. Thank you in advance for your time, energy, and contributions during the 2011 season. If you have an interest in serving as a Booster Club Board Member, please let us know. I will do my best to send out e-mails on a weekly basis to keep you alerted to events for the coming week.

Purple Strider Parent Opportunities!
The Purple Striders Booster Club has many opportunities for parents to be a part of the BG track and field teams. In order for us to remain as successful as we have in the past and to continue to improve, we need EVERYONE’S help. Below are positions that we need filled. This will automatically land you a spot on the board J. Please consider which of these would be something you could help with by either doing it yourself, or gathering a group of friends to all share the fun with you!

1. We host a possible 5 meets this season. Each of those will need someone to coordinate concessions. This means buying them (you are reimbursed..bring your receipt) and setting it up at the meet, getting a couple of volunteers to work it with you that day, and taking down. You may select any of the meet dates to be the “concession guy”:
Purple Gold scrimmage – Friday, March 18th
Warren East and BG dual meet- Thursday, March 24th
A possible dual meet- Thursday, March 31st
Jr. High meet- Tuesday, April 19th
BG Invitational- Friday, April 29th
City/County- Tuesday, May 10th
2. Purple Apparel: At each meet, we also set up apparel. This is all our Purple shirts, t-shirts, caps, bags, etc. for sale. I need someone to pick up the boxes of apparel, bring to the meet, and set up.
3. The run-a-thon. There is more info in your packet about this fundraiser. We are looking for someone to oversee this event and gather some volunteers.
4. Field Advertising- Again, there is more info in your packet about this. I need someone to oversee this also.
5. Watch for more information as we try to get some VERY simple track clubs started at the elementary schools so that we might host a fun track and field day for elementary teams.
6. PARTICIPATE IN PIZZA HUT NIGHT and MANCINO’S NIGHT!!! We will have a fundraiser night at Pizza Hut on Scottsville Road on April 25th and at Mancino’s near the Junior High on March 16th. Please invite your friends to dine with you on those evenings. At Mancino’s you must drop your receipt in the jar!
7. We have available spots to fill on the BG Purple Striders Board for anyone willing to help in any of these areas.
